Local Pain Medicine Practice Continues to Expand with Announcement of New Physician Assistant and Gulf Coat Resident, Kimberly Fortier
Pascagoula, MS (January 20, 2015)
The physicians and staff of Comprehensive Pain & Rehabilitation are pleased to announce the association of Kimberly Fortier, MHS, PA-C. She joined the team of pain management specialists recently and provides patient care services at its Mississippi clinic locations.
Fortier earned a master's degree in health sciences with a concentration on physician assistant studies from the University of South Alabama. She earned an undergraduate degree in athletic training from the University of North Florida. For seven years, she has worked on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the role of program director and clinician for a general surgery practice.
"I'm very hands-on," Fortier said. "A lot of what I enjoyed about my previous job in bariatrics and weight loss was being able to support patients both as a clinician and emotionally through their treatment process. I think the field of pain management shares the same features, which ultimately contribute to a patient's long-term success."
Fortier said she is aware that chronic pain can be misunderstood by patients and the community and takes a compassionate approach to the often debilitating health issue.
"I try to identify with the frustration that a patient can encounter," she said. "I try to understand what patients go through and support them as we work together in finding long-term success with treatment."
The former president of the Mississippi Academy of Physician Assistants is also a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants as well as the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. She is certified in basic life support and has worked as a certified athletic trainer.
She and her husband, Tim, have a one-year-old son, Collin. As a family, they love exploring the Mississippi Gulf Coast, riding bikes and just being outdoors. A native of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and an avid tennis player, Fortier and her family attend St. Alphonsus Church in Ocean Springs, MS.
